I mean I’ve seen quite a common theme for the r/history memes lately. The major part of the sub just becomes people talking about A: communist China massacres B: Chinese propaganda controlling information. And these kind of posts have always been a major part of this sub I get it, and this format have existed for a long time, with things like communist Russia starving, the nazi stuff, (curiously little Japan stuff) and another more recent example with the USA First Nations tribe treaties things. I get it, but where it gets a bit too much is where you see the similarities of this kind of information getting passed around to other previous historical events. For example the NAZI germany spreading negative information about the Jews, (oh yeah and you know what happed next). First step of winning a war is to de humanize the other side, and oh shit don’t you say that this is only talking about the history (let’s be honest how many times have you seen anti eastern sentiment in a post before huh) and with trump being a thing(think people might have forgotten him but they will remember soon the re-election is coming up) actually guys try to look at some of the comment sections in YouTube or some other media source with anything China related, and chances are you are gonna see some moderate to what the fuck is this guy talking about[Tm] level anti eastern comments (YouTube video linked in the end, go to comment section). And this is worrying me in general, I remember a few years ago when trump first got into power and there were worries about WWIII coming up and I thought that was just a light hearted kinda self relieving joke but nowadays it just feel like that the chance of WWIII with the Russians, DPRK (I’ll be disappointed if you guys don’t know what this is), and Chinese are getting more and more real. So really guys use your critical thinking skills and before you get your prejudices rolling use your critical thinking skills and do some research yourself.Btw sorry for the long essay kinda post I know it’s not as attractive as some other “simple picture memes that confirms with your prejudices” but bare with me, it’s actually so funny seeing memes about propaganda being propaganda, if you guys wanna see any future posts about some other history things just leave comments requesting them, I’ll try my best to actually do fucking research and answer you guys.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Se2a3W3oNfQ&t=338sIt’s in the first comment thread, the one from YouTube user cat1911, it’s in its 101 replies.
