State of the sub 28-2-19

Hello everyone,We here at the mod team believe it is time to address some questions from you, issues that we see, and give an update on the changes we’ve made and will be making this year.Part I: Rules and expectations for usersReposting and low effort titles: how we are working to fix the problem:Not soon after our meme war with /r/animemes we added a few rules and made the language more clear of what we are expecting. This included adding rules 7-9 and clearing up the wording of rules 1-6. We as of this post we will be reworking our repost rules (rule 2)”Rule 2: YOU MUST HAVE [REPOST] IN YOUR TITLENo reposts of younger than 4 monthsNo reposts of memes from the Top 100No reposts of frequently made posts”This allows for users to repost older and not as popular memes at a much lower rate. It also shows all the users what we mean when we remove a post for being a repost. In regards to “frequently made posts” if there is an influx of a certain type of post all with the same punchline or making the same joke with just one variable changed it will be seen as breaking this rule.We also will be removing any post with a low effort title, you know the type “interesting title”, “[single letter]”, etc. With /r/historymemes quickly approaching 600k subs we feel it is appropriate to give a reason to not break a rule besides just deleting a post.2: PunishmentIf you break any rule, specifically rules 1,2,4,5 in regard to posting, YOU WILL RECEIVE A 1-2 DAY BAN. We have been handing these out since late December but we are officially putting it into the rules. A first time or single rule break will result in a 1-2 ban, anything more can result in a 15+ day ban some offences may result in a 15+ or even permanent ban even on the first offence. As always it is up to the individual moderator/entire mod team on whether to ban a user and keep them banned. You may appeal your ban in the modmail as a response to your ban.Do not message a moderator separately concerning your ban or you will have it extended.ReportingAs our subreddit grows it is all our job as a community to make this a place to attract new users and keep our current ones coming back and creating new content. We ask that if you see a rule breaking post or behavior that out right breaks the rules we have in the side bar to please report it to the mods.Part II: Events, contests, and holidaysThe mod team will soon be rolling out monthly and occasionally weekly contests/collaborations with other subreddits. You can expect the first one to start within the next week. When we have contests we will have a special tag for that contest, if you don’t tag your post please don’t expect your post to win. This a short part but all contests will be based on US Central Time (UTC -6) this will be for ending contests as it allows users across the world to get it in before it is to late.Part III: The mod teamWe here at the mod team are always working on making this sub better and making it a place people want to come to get their fix on history memes from all eras and parts of history this includes art, military, political, trade, science, and much more. In order to accommodate for this influx of users on top of being more active moderators we will be drawing from the moderator applications we received in January over the next few months, so fear not! You too may be chosen to join the ranks of the big gay (read:mod team). This is just a quick overview of some things we wanted to address and plan on working on. As always if you have any questions please feel free to comment or message the mods.As always,/u/thedelta via /r/HistoryMemes https://ift.tt/2NytPWM
